Alabama Firefighter Memorial Unveiled in Anniston

A memorial for all of Alabama’s firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty is unveiled in Anniston. What started out 20 years ago as an idea to honor Alabama’s local heroes has now come to fruition at Centennial Memorial Park.

The memorial features a black granite face, with the names of fallen firefighters etched into the surface. The memorial sits alongside similar memorials for Alabama’s police officers and military servicemen and women.

Vice Chairman of the Centennial Memorial Committee Ken Rollins says this type of memorial is unlike any other in the state. An official dedication is scheduled for May 18th, where more names will be unveiled. The memorial includes both paid and volunteer firefighters from across the state.
