Government Day at Oxford High School Lets Students Shadow Government Employees

Thursday, April 26, 2018

A group of high school seniors shadow their local government leaders for a day. Oxford High School students followed Oxford City Officials today as part of Senior Government Day. Students ran for office and Caleb Lambert was elected mayor. Lambert says he hopes to follow in Mayor Alton Craft’s shoes and become mayor of Oxford. OHS Government teacher Adam Clark says this is a great way for students to get hands-on experience and to see how the city government operates.

Senior Government day has been an annual event since the 1960s. Each year, students visit different locations throughout the day, learning everything they can about the local city government. Students can even chime in with their own opinions on certain issues and help make a difference.
