Tuesday, May 1, 2018

An early morning fire claims the life of a Piedmont woman and leaves a man with serious burns. Piedmont firefighters and EMS personnel responded to a home on Piedmont Cutoff Road around 6 this morning. The man managed to escape the house and was flown to an Atlanta hospital.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown says Jacqueline Jenkins was found inside and was pronounced dead at the scene. Several firefighters remained at the scene for more than three hours putting out the flames. Piedmont fire Chief Mike Ledbetter says they are still investigating what caused the fire and whether the home had working smoke detectors.
