The weather is finally warming up and dozens of children are getting out and doing a little fishing. Students and volunteers from across Cleburne and Calhoun Counties visited Oxford Lake to participate in the annual Kids Fishing Classic.
Besides casting and reeling- it was also a beautiful day just to soak up the sun and get some fresh air. Alabama Law Enforcement Wildlife and Freshwater Fish Biologist Aid Ginger Howell has known many of the students for years and says this is her favorite event.
Howell says it’s fun to see the kids catch the fish, because no matter how big or small the catch is, they are just excited to be outside with friends. The students caught more than 250 fish.
