People who lost their jobs due to the severe storms and tornadoes that struck Calhoun and Etowah counties in March may qualify for unemployment assistance. Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington says anyone who lives or worked in the impacted areas may be eligible for assistance under the Disaster Unemployment Assistance program.
Washington says those who are eligible for state unemployment benefits are usually not eligible for DUA, but may be qualified if state unemployment compensation benefits are exhausted.
If you believe you are entitled to these benefits, you can file a claim through ADOL’s website or by giving them a call. The deadline to file a DUA claim is May 29th.
