A portion of sales tax from new businesses in the city of Anniston would soon help fund public schools. During this week’s Anniston City Council meeting, members voted unanimously to earmark a portion of the taxes from new businesses for Anniston City Schools. The resolution would take 20% from new businesses and put it into a school fund.
The council will have to approve of the distribution of the money. Mayor Jack Draper says the funds would only be spent on workforce development in career technology training purposes. The resolution takes effect June first.
