Renovations will soon begin on a local community center. The Gadsden City Council awarded a bid for the renovations of the former General Forrest Middle School to become the Black Creek Community Center. Hudak Construction got the job with a bid of just over a million dollars to go towards the project. The community center will be connected to the new Boys and Girls Club at that same location.
Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton says this project will give children in the area a place to enjoy. Guyton also says the renovations should only take about three months to complete. The Community Center at Black Creek will have a police presence, library space and will be the new home to Gadsden’s Transportation and DART services.
The new facility will also further partnerships with the Boys and Girls club programs, Emma Sansom Middle School and Floyd Elementary School and have accessibility to Meighan Boulevard.
