The jury is assembled and the trial will begin in the 2015 murder case against an Eastaboga man. In August 2015 Oxford police responded to a 911 call at a home in Bynum. Responding officers discovered that Teneshia Varner had been stabbed to death. Her husband, Deandre Varner was arrested and charged with murder the next day.
Varner’s attorneys, David Johnston and Will Clay, along with Calhoun County District Attorney Brian McVeigh and Chief Assistant District Attorney Lynn Hammond, narrowed the jury to 13. Johnston says Varner does not deny the murder.
Two months before Teneshia’s death, she filed a warrant against her husband for domestic violence. At the time of the murder, the two were separated. Johnston says the crime was committed in the heat of the moment.
