Regional Medical Center has confirmed that Jacksonville hospital will close its doors. RMC Chief Executive Officer Louis Bass cites the lack of patients, poor federal reimbursement, and rising costs as the main reasons for closing the facility. He also says that over the past 5 years RMC has invested more than $14 million to preserve the hospital.
Bass says that despite their hard work, declining inpatient and emergency room volumes, as well as decreasing reimbursements common in today’s health care industry, led management to consider the closure. The Alabama Hospital Association says this is the 12th Alabama hospital to close since 2011. RMC Jacksonville will officially close on June 30th.
