A new industry is making its way to northeast Alabama. Calcean Minerals and Materials, LLC. is investing $2.6 Million to relocate to Gadsden. The company specializes in a type of sand that is harvested in the Bahamas. It’s refined and used by glass, plastics, and agricultural industries.
Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton says this will bring dozens of jobs to Gadsden. Guyton also says the development will have a long-term impact on the community with quality jobs. Calcean is currently operating in Florida, but officials say they could begin operating in Gadsden within just a few weeks.
