The Anniston Housing Authority is considering ways to propose spending money from federal grants that they are seeking. The group held a public meeting on the topic this afternoon. They asked people to weigh in on the specific needs of the housing community.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is making available up to $5 million through the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative. Anniston Housing Authority Executive Director Sonny McMahand says they need feedback from people across the city in this planning process.
Housing authority representatives say some of the grant money will be used to further develop both Cooper Homes and Glen Addie Homes. Other options include turning vacant property into pocket parks, farmers markets or community gardens.
It might be 6 to 12 months before the grants are awarded.
