Jacksonville State Alumni House Demolished

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

An icon on the Campus of Jacksonville State University is no longer standing. This is all that’s left of the site where the JSU Alumni House once stood. The university announced online Friday that the house had been taken down.

The structure was built in 1839, but JSU moved it into place in 1982. The March 19th tornado left the historic building badly damaged, and according to JSU spokesperson, Buffy Lockette, campus officials determined it would cost too much to try and repair.

Lockette also says campus officials were sure to remove anything that could be salvaged from the building before it was demolished. Lockette says they decided to clear the site in advance of orientation, which begins this week. Lockette adds that the commemorative bricks, walkways and parking lots will remain in place for now.
