We know of more than 600 people in Northeast Alabama who will sleep well knowing they helped an agency or school in need. 626 volunteers from 55 local companies participated in the annual United Way of Etowah County Day of Action. The group of volunteers donated the equivalent of 3,185 work hours at a value of more than $78,000.
The volunteers completed 75 different projects at 41 non-profit agencies and schools across Etowah County. One of those sites was the YMCA of the Coosa Valley where Honda employees worked to spruce up the lawn and the entryway to the building.
The Day of Action started more than 20 years ago with 20 volunteers. United Way Executive Director Joanne Hightower stressed that the event helps the sites where work is completed as well as the volunteers who actually get their hands dirty.
Any company who was unable to volunteer today can still help by donating wish list items to the agencies.
