Tuesday, June 19, 2018

The Alabama Supreme Court has denied a petition to allow a Jackson County man to appeal his capital murder convictions and death sentence. James Ben Brownfield, Jr. of Scottsboro was convicted in 2004 of three counts of capital murder for the deaths of his sister, her three-year-old grandson, and her sister’s estranged husband.

Prosecutors said Brownfield’s killing spree took place after he took Xanax pills and argued with his sister on the night of December 23, 2001. Prosecutors said Brownfield brutally attacked and killed all three victims.
