Representative Chris England Says Governor Ivey's Sentry Program is Illegal

One Alabama Lawmaker is calling Governor Kay Ivey’s plan to allow school administrators to carry firearms, illegal. Governor Ivey signed the executive order for the Sentry Program on May 30th. Representative Chris England of Tuscaloosa is urging any school system who plans to participate in the program to take a look at current Alabama law.

England also called Ivey’s use of executive memo unconstitutional and said that it is, in his opinion, a violation of separation of powers. The Sentry Program allows administrators on school campuses without a resource officer to voluntarily carry weapons. Ivey originally called the plan a temporary measure until resource officers would be placed on every school campus in the state.
