A Gadsden man arrested in connection with an animal cruelty case in Cherokee County will soon learn his punishment. Leon Green was arrested last July and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals involving horses pastured at a location on Cherokee County Road 32.

Mr. Green entered an open plea and is set for sentencing Wednesday. LaToya Green was also arrested in the case. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in jail.

An investigation began after continuous complaints from members of the community reporting the mistreatment of horses owned by the Green’s. Help arrived too late for a female horse and euthanization was required. Three other horses found on the property have been relocated to a rescue facility in Chattooga County, Georgia.
