The two Alabama missionary groups who were stranded for several days in Haiti, have now returned safely to the US. First Baptist Church Russellville and Faith Community Church in Trussville traveled to the island to work with children ministries and host vacation bible schools for more than 250 children in poverty.
Protests over an increase in fuel prices turned violent and filled up streets in Haiti, forcing airlines to cancel flights just days before the groups were scheduled to return home.
TV24 spoke with people from both groups. The Trussville ministry group arrived in Fort Lauderdale this morning and the Russellville group will land in Atlanta before returning to Alabama.
