Governor Ivey Rescinds 2008 Prisoner Food Service Policy
Governor Kay Ivey has officially put a stop to the state giving jail food funds to sheriff’s personally. In a memo to the state comptroller, Governor Ivey rescinded the state’s 2008 policy of paying prisoner food service allowances directly to sheriffs for their personal use.
Ivey says those funds should be directed to the county general fund or to an account created for sheriff’s official use.
This decision stemmed from criticism that some Alabama Sheriff’s profit big by feeding inmates poorly, including Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
