Gadsden State Community College will now be offering a new a new program to their list of degree choices. Gadsden State’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is the only one in the state of Alabama enrolling students to be trained in three modalities, abdomen, obstetrics and vascular. Because the program is offering three modalities, it makes it very competitive. More than 130 students applied for the program this fall, but only 20 students were accepted. Rebecca Southern is the program’s Director who began her career in Diagnostic Sonography in 2005.
Southern describes what it takes to be a successful Sonographer. Southern also says that in order for the students to get proper training, they will have to practice. The community will also have opportunities to come and get screenings. The first day of classes for the Sonography program will begin August 20th and Professor Southern says her and her students couldn’t be more excited. The program will accept applications for the fall 2019 from November 1st to May 1st.
