One Man Shot and Killed in Cherokee County

Cherokee County deputies were called to the scene of a shooting earlier this morning at a home in the Ball Play area. When deputies arrived at the home they found Clay Askew lying inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Askew was transported to Gadsden Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shavers, Askew was at his ex-wife’s house in a physical altercation with her and some family members. During the altercation is when things escalated and Askew was shot several times. Sheriff Shaver describes this as a tragic result of domestic violence. The incident is still under investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
