Plans Developing for Horse Riding Trail in McClellan

Citizens of the community and McClellan Development Authority Board Members gathered today to discuss a proposal to build a horse riding trail. Backcountry Horsemen of Alabama wants to create a shared trail for bikers, hikers and horse riders that will take up 800 acres of land on the McClellan property.

Some bikers are concerned that the plan to merge the two trails will affect the bikers’ original plan for their trail. Although no decision has been made, President of the Backcountry Horsemen of Alabama Chad Bowman shares what good came from today’s meeting.

The McClellan Development Authority has already allocated $600,000 for the construction of their bike trail. Backcountry Horsemen of Alabama says they will fund their development. If the two groups can come to a compromise, this will be a positive economic impact for the City of Anniston and surrounding areas.
