Firefighters Graduate from the Bridge Program

Today is the day that 19 recruits can officially call themselves firefighters. Family and friends gathered today to witness their loved ones get pinned as certified firefighters. Five weeks ago, the students began the Bridge Program, which required extreme mental and physical toughness.

The program is 10 weeks worth of training covered in half that time. Oxford Fire Department Chief Gary Sparks attended the graduation and shares what it meant to pin the graduates.

Firefighter Ashlee Barnard was the only female recruit in the program. She says the group of instructors was one of a kind. Firefighter Peyton Vaughn is one of the high school recruits who completed courses before graduating high school to make him eligible for the Bridge Program. Firefighter Vaughn is excited to enter the next phase of his new career.

The recruits are now certified and look forward to putting their skills to use in the community.
