New Interstate Proposed to Run Through Alabama
A proposed new Interstate running through central Alabama has been mapped out using a federal study presented to Congress in 2010 that explored alternative routes from Texas to Augusta, Georgia. Interstate 14 would connect communities in five southern states from west Texas across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
If approved, the conceptual route across Alabama would include Selma, Montgomery and Phenix City. In Georgia I14 would connect Columbus, Macon and Augusta. Supporters of the proposed Interstate 14 say this would reduce poverty and improve the lives of residents along the route. If approved, Interstate 14 would also connect forts, ports and major cities.
