The freshman qualified for the 118th US Amatuer Championship that will be played at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course in California. Montenegro is coming off a whirlwind first year of college golf where he won the OVC Freshman of the Year, helped lead JSU to an OVC Championship and berth in the NCAA Regional and now he will get to represent the school in one of the biggest events in all of golf.

Competition begins next Monday (Aug. 13) and it will be an extra special event because Montenegro will have his coach James Hobbs as his caddy. The veteran coach has been to Pebble Beach before and knows how special this moment is for his young player.

The tournament started in 1895 and is the USGA's oldest championship. The stroke play portion of the event will be co-hosted by Pebble Beach and Spyglass, with Pebble Beach hosting the championship portion. The first two days of match play will be televised on FS1.
