Local Corrections Officer Recognized for Graduation from Academy


During today’s Calhoun County Commissioners meeting, a correctional Lieutenant was recognized for her recent accomplishment. Latonya Chames has completed the Alabama Jail Training Academy through the association of the County Commission. Chames has been with the Calhoun County jail since she graduated high school and began working as a correctional officer before becoming a nurse at the jail.

The six week academy teaches officers how to properly treat and care for the inmates as well as what should be done in certain situations. Lieutenant Chames shares the most valuable lesson she learned at the academy. Chames also says she looks forward to sharing some of her knowledge obtained at the academy with her fellow employees.
