In other news, commissioners also approved a grant from the Alabama Department of Corrections for $478,000 to assist with overcrowding in the Calhoun County Jail. According to Sheriff Matthew Wade, the jail is currently housing more than 500 male inmates and is built to only hold 400.

During the meeting, Sheriff Wade shared that he also wants to find a way to recruit more correctional officers. While this grant is still a temporary solution for overcrowding, Wade says details are still being finalized on how the money will be spent.
