Saturday, August 18, 2018

Hobson City took this week to celebrate its 119th Founder’s Day with their Founders Heritage Festival. Hundreds of people within the community participated in the week long festival in Hobson City. Several event were held throughout the week to teach people in and around the community about the history of Hobson City, which was Alabama's first self-governed all black district.

Today the historic city held a mental health forum to focus on citizens who are or have a loved one suffering from mental health. A panel of experts and practitioners addressed questions on substance abuse, opioid addiction, sexual assault, as well as children and school related issues. Therapist Bobby Malone shares why he feels mental health forums are so important to every community.

The city will wrap up its heritage celebration tomorrow with the Heritage 5K walk-run marathon beginning at the Hobson City Public Library followed by the Heritage family reunion at JR Striplin Park.
