Local Fireman Getting Ready for Firefighter Combat Challenge

Local firefighters are asking for the community’s help getting to a World Competition. The Anniston Youngblood’s are a group of five firefighters from the Anniston Fire Department, who are looking to compete in this year’s world competition Firefighter Combat Challenge. The competition is made up of firefighters from around the world. Firefighters show off their skills and techniques while also learning from one another how to stay in shape and fight fires.

The competition will take place this year in Sacramento, California. The team is looking to raise $3,000 to cover competition expenses, hotel and travel. The five Anniston Youngblood’s have volunteered the little free time they have to make sure they prepare right for the Combat Challenge. Firefighter Sean Jones says the competition makes the work all worth it.

Because the competition is voluntary, the department doesn’t cover the expenses of the challenge. But Jones says this is means more than a challenge to the Anniston Youngblood’s.

The competition takes place October 22nd until the 27th. The Anniston Youngblood’s are selling support t-shirts that are available at the Anniston Fire Department for $20 each. The shirts come in two colors, military green or black. All the money collected from sales will go directly to the expenses for the world competition.

If you would like to simply donate to the Anniston Youngblood’s, a GoFundMe account has been set up and is attached to their Facebook page called ‘Anniston Youngblood’s.’ You can also take donations up to the Anniston Fire Department located at 225 East 17th Street.
