Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is urging everyone to participate in the upcoming census. Ivey has signed an executive order to establish a state level committee designed to prepare for maximum participation in the 2020 US Census. The Alabama Counts 2020 Census committee will be made up of both public and private statewide organizations.
More than 100 federal programs use data collected during census counts to distribute billions of dollars in federal funding to the states. Those programs include Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Highway Planning and Construction, and Title 1 Grants for education. Ivey’s executive order directs the committee to develop a Census Action Plan by August 1st of next year.
