The City of Anniston held a public hearing on the City Manager’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. According to City Finance Director Cory Salley, the City Manager’s recommended budget has $100,000 going to the schools which is above what they receive from property taxes. The City Manager also proposed the idea to fund two school resource officers, as they did last year, which would cost a total of $80,000.
The council also authorized the mayor to sign documents transferring 144 acres of land from the McClellan Development Authority to the city of Anniston. The city’s revenues look to increase to $39.2 million for the upcoming fiscal year. The mayor along with city council have scheduled a budget meeting on August 28th to offer any amendments to the proposed budget.
