Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd Dies
The guitarist who played and wrote Alabama’s anthem has died. Ed King was one of the three writers who created the hit song ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ that was performed by the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
King became a member of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band in 1972. ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ was the groups second release single and went on to be their only single placed as high as number eight on the Billboard’s chart.
Lynyrd Skynyrd sold 28 million records in the US alone that led them to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. According to King’s Facebook, he passed away at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 68 years old.
