After months of anticipation, the location for a new federal courthouse building has been selected. According to Anniston Councilman Jay Jenkins, the new federal courthouse will be built where the current City Hall building stands. The General Services Administration chose from three potential locations in downtown Anniston on where the federal building will be built. Councilman Jenkins also says the City Hall will relocate to the former federal courthouse building.
By the new federal building staying in the middle of the downtown area, it will bring new developments in the district. The projected cost of the federal building is more than $42.5 million. Jenkins tells TV 24 that they’re excited to be moving forward with the project and the anticipated start of construction is fall of next year.
