Drive Sober Labor Day

As people prepare to celebrate Labor Day, law enforcement officers are also preparing for one of the deadliest holidays of the year. According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the national enforcement campaign, ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’, begins this weekend and will run until the end of Labor Day Weekend.

During this period, local law enforcement will show zero tolerance toward impaired drivers. This campaign aims to drastically reduce impaired driving along roadways. DUI checkpoints will be conducted throughout this campaign as well as DUI high visibility saturation patrols.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 people were killed in impaired driving crashes in 2016. Sheriff Shaver encourages everyone to not drink and drive during their celebration leading into and during the Labor Day holiday.
