Silent Run for Officer Sollohub

Today marks the day that an Anniston Police lost his life in the line of duty. Seven years ago today, Officer Justin Sollohub was shot as he was initiating a foot chase. Officer Sollohub stopped his vehicle to make contact with a man walking near the intersection of 19th Street and Moore Avenue. As Sollohub was following the man around the side of a house, the man shot the officer. Sollohub was transported to UAB hospital where he died.

In remembrance of Officer Sollohub, close friends and officers from the Anniston Police department gather each year on the morning of August 24th to do a silent run, remembering their friend. The new Anniston Police Department is named after Officer Sollohub who dedicated his life to the department for two years. Attorney and close friend Teddy Copeland says this day will forever be dedicated to Officer Sollohub.

The man who shot Officer Sollohub was arrested later that day after a massive manhunt. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death on December 16th, 2013.
