A Cherokee County Fire Department will soon break ground on a new fire station provided by funding from Governor Kay Ivey’s Departmental Emergency Fund. A check for $50,000 was made out to the McCord Fire Department from Governor Ivey to begin the construction of a new sub-station within the Osceola community.
After the land was donated to the fire department, the department collected more than $27,000 in donations from the community as well as a grant worth $33,000 from the USDA’s office of Rural Development.
According to Chief Rich Lindsey, the new facility will decrease response times to more than 1,000 people in the Alexis, Osceola, and Kirks Grove communities. The McCord Fire Department expects to break ground within the next 6 months and complete the project within the next year.
