Cherokee County Coroner Receives Special Award


Cherokee County Coroner Doctor Jeremy Deaton recently achieved one of the highest certifications in the country. Doctor Deaton received certification with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. The process is very difficult and rigorous, requiring more than 2,200 hours of death scene investigations, completing more than 300 different tasks while demonstrating a positive working relationships with numerous agencies involved in medicolegal death cases.

Doctor Deaton began collaborating with JSU Center for Applied Science two years ago in order to strengthen his knowledge in the area of death investigation. Doctor Deaton says he looks forward to serving his next term as he will continue to pursue his desire for excellence. Currently, there are only five coroners in the state with this level of certification.
