Local Fire Departments Receive Grants

Calhoun County fire departments received grants totaling more than $150,000 to help purchase new safety equipment and support. The Piedmont Fire Department’s grant totaled more than $56,000, the men and women of the Weaver Fire Department will receive a grant for $69,000, and the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department received $25,000.

According to the Homeland Security Department, which administers the grant, the purpose of the program is to award funding directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS organizations, and state fire training academies that are unaffiliated with a hospital.
