No. 2 Oxford Prepares For No. 3 Pinson Valley

Thursday, September 20, 2018

This week offers another great slate of games that include ranked teams. Perhaps none bigger or more electrifying than #2 Oxford hosting #3 Pinson Valley. TV24 Sports dropped by the Yellow Jackets practice Wednesday as they get set for a big game from the statewide perspective and a huge Class 6A Region 6 matchup. Oxford has gotten off to a dominating 4-0 start overall and 2-0 in the region. The Jackets are outscoring their opponents 158-6.

The storylines of this game are endless. Pinson Valley is led by five-star quarterback Bo Nix who is committed to Auburn. The Indians are coached by Bo's father Patrick Nix who starred at Etowah High School and went on to play for the Tigers. The pair arrived at Pinson Valley last year and went undefeated and won the 6A state championship… Coach Herring says the senior quarterback is as good as advertised.

The Oxford defense will be the best that Nix has seen so far this season. The unit is led by Defensive Coordinator Lee Ozmint who has helped guide the defense to three shutouts. The only points scored on this defense was a last second touchdown against Gadsden City.
