2019 Fiscal Budget Approved for City of Jacksonville

The City of Jacksonville has approved the 2019 fiscal budget after previously facing a deficit for more than $100,000. An unexpected rise in employee insurance and retirement costs left the Jacksonville City Council’s 2019 budget in a deficit of $110,000. City officials were forced to find ways and come to an agreement on how to handle the deficit during budget proposal meetings before the new fiscal year begins.

Officials agreed to reduce spending for volunteer firefighters and for an early retirement program in order to cancel out the deficit the city previously faced. During the city council meeting, city leaders approved the 2019 fiscal budget for $14 million. The city’s 2019 fiscal year begins on October 1st.
