New City Limit Constitutional Amendment

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department announced earlier today that the upcoming general election will have a constitutional amendment regarding municipalities and their jurisdiction tax. If approved by voters, the amendment will prohibit outside cities from issuing taxes and citations to Calhoun County residents within city limits.

This amendment strings from police jurisdiction coming into Calhoun county, setting up checkpoints to issue tickets, and not giving them police and fire services when needed by residents in that same jurisdiction. Outside municipalities have also been adding a 1% tax to residents within those jurisdictions without representing them. We talked with Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade about the issue. This amendment will be offered on the ballot for for the upcoming general election on November 6th.
