County Commissioners Approve Pay Raise for Jailers

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade is pleased that county commissioners approved a pay raise for some corrections officer staff. During a regular commissioners meeting, officials approved the 2019 fiscal year budget for $18.5 million that includes a pay raise for jail staffers. Sheriff Wade told TV24 that the pay raise is for non-civil service corrections officers staring at $12 hourly instead of $10.

This increase comes after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office could not recruit more corrections officers to assist with overseeing inmates because the starting pay was too low. Sheriff Wade also adds that he is very appreciative of the commission and their efforts to help resolve this issue.
