A Night Out with Public Safety

A recent night out at the Oxford Civic Center showed people within the community what public safety is all about. The Oxford Police Department along with the Oxford Fire Department and several other agencies participated in showing citizens what public safety officials actually do on a day to day basis. Free hot dogs, drinks, and popcorn were served as parents brought their children to meet safety personnel.

McGruff the police dog and Sparky the fire dog also made an appearance to assist with making children feel more comfortable and confident meeting and talking with officials. Captain LG Owens says this is an event all local agencies look forward to being a part of every year. Captain Owens says people enjoyed touring and learning about all the equipment law enforcement brought out to the event such as the helicopter, the bearcat vehicle, and their mobile command unit.
