The Alabama Board of Veterans Affairs recently voted to build another veterans home in the southeast region. The building will provide up to 175 private bedrooms for veterans.
Chairman of the Veterans Home Committee Ken Rollins says the next steps will be applying for a federal grant to help pay for the facility as well as looking for opening bids on where to build the home. Rollins shares how he believes this home will benefit local veterans.
Rollins adds that the four existing veterans homes are in Alexander City, Huntsville, Bay Minette and Pell City and are all built on donated land. If approved for the federal grant, 60% of the construction of the facility will be paid for. Rollins also says he hopes to close on bid and have a groundbreaking ceremony within the next year.
