AL Gauging Law Takes Affect

Thursday, October 11, 2018

Alabama Attorney Steve Marshall is reminding people that with the state of emergency in effect for Hurricane Michael, Alabama’s Gouging Law has been activated. This law prohibits the unconscionable pricing of items 25% or more above the average price within the last 30 days.

The penalty for violating this statewide law is a fine up to $1,000 per violation and may be prohibited from continuing business in the state. Customers and officials wanting to report illegal pricing can go onto the Attorney General's website to file a complaint.
