Local Law Enforcement Officers put hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill today to show appreciation to members of their community. Since the March 19th tornado struck Jacksonville, students and faculty members have rallied together to help rebuild Jacksonville’s campus.

The annual student appreciation cookout is so students and officers can bridge the gap between them while also addressing concerns and asking questions. The cookout was held on the Quad, the central point of campus. Chief Rob Schaffer says this event is about building relationships.

JSU Freshman Kierstin Ryder says she’s thankful that the officers are taking the time to connect with students but she finds it interesting that their doing it this way. Ryder adds that her and her friends really enjoyed spending time, in between classes, with the University Police Officers and look forward to more upcoming events.
