Suicide Awareness Workshop at Jacksonville State

The Continuing Education Department at Jacksonville State University held a workshop for crisis responders regarding suicide awareness. The Suicide Crisis Intervention Workshop is designed to not only increase the awareness of suicide, but to also equip participants with information and the basic skills to respond to a person who may be considering suicide.

The entry level course went over, in detail, what the apparent signs are of someone who has a mental illness and its preventative and protective factors. This course was open for professionals but Instructor Ted Embry says he believes anyone who is interested in giving back can take this course. Embry also says that discussions, demonstrations and scenarios were used to help teach this course.
