The City of Heflin came together to acknowledge a retiring police officer who was injured in the line of duty. Former Assistant Chief Jackie Stovall served Heflin for 12 years before being shot by a suspect wanted for murder. Family, friends, and community members gathered at city hall during the city council meeting to share encouraging words with Stovall.
The former police officer was gifted with plaques commemorating his selfless sacrifice and dedication he displayed during his years on the force. Although Stovall’s duty as an active police officer has ended, he still plans on finding ways to stay active. Stovall also shared how he was extremely overjoyed by the love and appreciation displayed by the city of Heflin.
