The Homeless Coalition of Northeast Alabama held an event to help people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk get the proper care and information they need in order to re-enter society. This year’s eighth annual Project Homeless Connect provided free medical screenings, housing applications, domestic violence counseling, legal help, reusable water bottles and more. More than 50 people showed up to this year’s event.
The Homeless Coalition’s main goal is to work towards ending homelessness and poverty throughout northeast Alabama. People who came looking for guidance were also given items to help prepare them for the winter until a solution for their situation can be resolved. The project coordinator for the Homeless Connect says this is a year round battle to end poverty and homelessness.
Ledbetter says that she hopes that people who participated in today’s event gained valuable information that will help them land a job, get proper housing, and take those first steps down the right path towards a stable environment.
