Know Your Amendments - Amendment One
Election Day is right around the corner and it’s important voters know what to expect on the ballots as they arrive to the voting polls on Tuesday. On the back of your ballots there will be four proposed amendments looking to be added into the state’s constitution. Alabamians are required to vote either yay or nay for each amendment.
Today we will focus on Amendment One, which would allow the display of the Ten Commandments on state-owned property. If the amendment passes, it will also permit such displays on property owned or administered by a public school or other public body. However, it also prohibits the use of any public funds to defend the amendment from a constitutional challenge in court.
