The sounds of Christmas officially start Friday morning, and one of the most familiar is the sound of bells being rung by Salvation Army volunteers. Here in Calhoun County, collection sites will be located at major stores and shopping areas to remind customers about the local efforts to help the less fortunate. The commanding officer of the Salvation Army in Anniston, Lieutenant Jennifer Graham, says this is her organization’s biggest fund-raising effort of the year.
Another project being run by the Salvation Army this year is the Angel Tree. It’s located in the Quintard Mall, and it contains the names of children in need of some holiday gifts. Graham says donors are asked to take a name from the tree and follow the instructions. Angel Tree gifts should be returned to the tree by December 4th.
